Absecon Saltwater Sportsmen

Meeting of March 14, 2011
The meeting of the Absecon Saltwater Sportsmen was called to order by President Jim Van Daley. The club performed the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for our Military.

Secretary’s Report: The minutes of February 14, 2011 were read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report: General Account: N/A Charity Account: N/A

Trustee Report: A meeting was held on February 28 where the budget was set, fishing tournament dates were set, and membership drive was discussed. A meeting is scheduled for March 28 at Jim’s house, 8PM to discuss fishing tournaments.

G.A.B.T Report: A meeting is scheduled for March 16.

In House Tournament: Dates are scheduled. See Calendar on ASWS web site.

Open Tournament: Lou to find out if the Absecon American Legion yard is available for the day of the open tournament.

Sunshine: No report of anyone sick.

Club Picnic: Nothing to report.

Federation: Venison dinner on February 21 had a huge turnout. Youth shoot on March 19.

NJ Marine Fishery:

Free saltwater registry passed by the Governor. It’s not clear when and how this registry will get implemented. In the meantime anglers are required to join the Federal registry for a $15 fee.

Still no decision on summer flounder season and limits. Several proposals have been presented. NJMFC will decide on summer flounder limits at a special meeting on April 7, 2011 at the Atlantic County Library on Jimmie Leeds Rd. Meeting starts at 4pm.

ASWS Web Site: All events have been posted in the 2011 Calendar tab. Membership drive flyer posted in Events tab. A Facebook page was set up but no friends added yet. A link from the Facebook page to the website is coming. Jim will have someone present the benefits of Facebook to the club at a future meeting.

New Applications:

No new applicants.

Open house for new members will be held on May 9 at 8:00PM. Flyers will be posted at many establishments in the area. Seeking discounts for members from local establishments. Ads will be posted in Fisherman’s magazine, on the BASS BARN and other web sites. Put an ad on the Absecon American Legion Sign.

Initiation fee will be waived for any new members joining that night

Decision for hats, decals and membership cards will be made at the March 28 board meeting.

Unfinished Business:

Need to order 50 T shirts for Nuncio Bruno tournament.

Members need to pick up raffle tickets to sell. The drawing is April 10, 2011.

Some issues with state approval. Something about permit numbers on the stub.

If you haven’t paid your 2011 ASWS club dues please send it ASAP.

Installation Diner: Held on February 18, 2011 at the Crab Trap. Prizes and plaques were awarded.

New Business:

Ollie will look into installing the new fishing line tube and sign at Somers Point ramp.

Need to set up the April 25 club meeting at the Brigantine VFW and have a guest speaker.

Club approved to purchase an ad with GABT.

Lou proposed to start all meetings at 7:30pm instead of the 8:00pm during the spring and summer months. Some members felt it would be too difficult to make that time. Proposal was not approved.

Elections: Nothing to report.

Good of the Order: Nothing to report.

Jim provided a very entertaining narration of his recent vacation to the other side of the world.
