August 25, 2014

The meeting opened with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops with President Jim Van Daley presiding. The minutes from August 11, 2014 were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was read and approved:

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

GACF: A Beef & Beer was held at the Black Cat on 8/24. Working on the big Chinese auction at Parkertown on 10/18.
Sunshine: Paul Stonerod was in the hospital last week; he is out and was at the meeting.
Federation: Nothing to report.
NJMFC: Nothing to report.
Website: Posted picnic and minutes.

Striper and Perch: are ongoing, 2 weigh-ins to date.

COMMUNICATIONS: Received a thank you letter from the Field of Dreams, Bank Statements, and a Sams Club flyer for Lou.

NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS: Two new potential members were at the meeting.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Need to donate $500 to Field of Dreams at one of their baseball games. The dredging of Absecon channel is now schedule for next spring.

NEW BUSINESS: Need to start working on getting raffle tickets. Charlie or Jim need to show license to the Port Republic city manager.

PICNIC: Need volunteers for the following: collect money at the picnic, setting up the tables the night before, cleaning crabs the day before, cooking burgers and hot dogs. Need large coolers. Agreed to 800 clams and 1 bushel of #1 crabs.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

GACF: A Beef & Beer will be held at the Black Cat soon. Kim Kerks left $25K to the Lady’s Bluefish Org.
Sunshine: No report of anyone sick.
Federation: Still working on becoming a 501C organization.
NJMFC: Acquiring personal information on advisors to make sure of proper credentials for being on the board.
Website: Post “Day on the Bay Event” photos.
In House: 4th tournament is on 8/23.

COMMUNICATIONS: Received a thank you letter from the Lady Bluefish Organization.

NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS: No new member applications.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The “Day on the Bay” was held on August 11 and the kids had a great time fishing. The weather was perfect and all enjoyed the BBQ put on by the Brigantine Elks Club.

NEW BUSINESS: Members should support the Flying Cloud restaurant in Absecon which is a great place to eat and meet.

OPEN TOURNAMENT: Charlie gave a finance report on the open tournament. He suggested, and the club approved, giving another $500 to the Field of Dreams organization at one of their baseball games. Results of the open tournament:

PICNIC: The date is set for September 7. John Reese has caught about 3 gallons of perch so far.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: There is a Sea Craft meeting on Sunday night, members can go if they like. Logger Turtles and Rays are reported seeing in Absecon bay and Inlet. Ollie had dinner with the Petro’s before they left for NY. Jim needs the fisherman plaque of the year. The desert plaque is missing, Carl Wilson may have it.

The minutes of July 14, 2014 were read and approved. Charlie was not present to read the treasurer’s report.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

GACF: No report.
Sunshine: John Reese was in the hospital, he was at the meeting and looking well.
Federation: Shutdown for the summer.
NJMFC: No report.
Website: Need to post “Day on the Bay Event” and the 2nd half Land & Sea tournament.
In House: 4th tournament is on 8/23. Results of the open tournament were not available.

COMMUNICATIONS: Bank Statements.

NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS: John Karlsson was approved as a new member.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The “Day on the Bay” will be held on Monday, August 11. Fish Finder and Elks are confirmed. Joe will see if we can get the Day on the Bay story fisherman magazine.

NEW BUSINESS: The holdup for dredging Absecon Bay is the location for the spoils. The activity has been turned over to NJDOT.

OPEN TOURNAMENT: The tournament was a success. The boat count (31) was up from last year. The club thanked Dave and Ed for helping with the weigh-in. Jack and Janet Petro were at the BBQ and said good-bye. They are moving to upstate NY. There was a discussion about changing to state size limits instead of the 18 inch rule for next year.

PICNIC: John said he would again make his famous clam chowder.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: Joe took the action to look into getting someone to come to a meeting and show the members how to use a GPS chart plotter. Joe talked of a possible side meeting at the restaurant formerly known as the Flying Cloud just to get together.
