March 14, 2016 Minutes

March 14, 2016

The meeting was brought to order by Jim Van Daley, President, with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops. The minutes of the February 8 meeting were read and approved. The treasurers’ report was read and approved. Charles Elwell also discussed the annual budget from the directors meeting of February 29. As it stands, the general account will have a surplus of $N/A. The charity account will be in the red for $1786.00, mostly because we have budgeted a lot of money for t-shirts for upcoming tournaments. The directors also approved a $200 donation to SSFFF (“Save the summer flounder fishery fund).

TRUSTEES: No report.

GACF: There will be a meeting on Wednesday the 16th. Jim Van Daley has GACF raffle tickets for anyone who wishes to purchase.

SUNSHINE: No report.

FEDERATION: The annual venison dinner was held February 15. Number of attendees was down to approx. 270 people. The Federation will participate, once again, in HOFNOD at Patriot Lake on May 7. The Federation held its annual kids’ sporting clays event at Red Wing Sporting Clays on March 12. It was a big success as there were approx. 115 kids in attendance.

TOURNAMENTS: 4 boats now signed up. Cost is $120 for all 4 tournaments.

COMMUNICATIONS: We received the state license for our weigh in scale.

MEMBER APPLICATIONS: A new member has been approved. His name is Jay Lavance. Jay works at Absecon Bay Sportsmen Center. Welcome Jay!

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: John Reese gave a report on raffle tickets. They are all distributed and he has been collecting the outstanding money.

NEW BUSINESS: President Van Daley stated he will give out flyers for the kid’s bluefish tournament and the open tournament. He will do this at the hooked on fishing tournament at Patriot Lake on May 7. Tony Zarack mentioned that the NJOA (New Jersey Outdoor Alliance) will hold a fundraiser shoot at Red Wing Sporting Clays on May 14. The cost is $55.00 and includes lunch. Bring your own shells and gun. 100 targets. Tony also mentioned that the AC police will be running the kids fishing derby of AC to be held on June 11. President Van Daley said it is not too early to start asking for T-shirt sponsors for the open tournament; $150 and $200 for business, and $100 for family. Paul Stonerod also stated that he will be running the land and sea tournament again this year, starting May 1. There was also discussion about whether we would have a speaker in April. In the past, it was held at the Brigantine VFW but we have not heard from them so we may have a speaker at our second April meeting in Absecon and open to the public. Ed Goldman spoke about Absecon Mayor Armstrong’s concept to have a marine boardwalk from the Absecon pool to extend as far as the Conkley property. A motion was made by Harry Walker and seconded and approved for the following: Joe Ricciardi would purchase club t-shirts with our logo on them. He would use his money and as he sells them he would repay himself and the rest of the money would go into the club treasury. He is doing this as the club does not have the funds to purchase shirts in advance right now.

Next meeting: Monday, April 11 at 8:00 PM. (Note: meetings start at 8PM and will be held twice a month)

Respectfully submitted,
Lou Schott, acting Secretary
