February 12, 2018

The meeting was brought to order by Jim Van Daley, President, with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops. The minutes of the January 15 meeting were read and approved. The treasurers’ report was read and approved.

TRUSTEES: Meeting set for February 26 at 7 pm at Jim Van Daley’s house.

GACF: Will have a raffle this year and will be at the boat show. They are in discussion
with the Ladies Bluefish tournament to perhaps have a combined fishing
tournament of some kind; details have to be worked out.

TOURNAMENTS: Joe King was given a plaque for catching the largest striper, he was unable to
attend the fishing club banquet.

SUNSHINE: It was mentioned that past president John Dunn had passed away. Some
of our members attended his viewing.

FEDERATION: Dave Burke mentioned that volunteers are needed to cut venison for the Federation dinner to be held on Monday, February 19th at the Port Republic Gun Club at 8 am. Also, on March 17 the Federation will hold its annual youth shoot at Red Wing Sporting Clays. There was discussion about allowing the fish and game council to set hunting and fishing fees rather than the present system of passing the state legislature. There was also discussion about the state Marine Fisheries moving out of the Nacote Creek property which is part of the federal wildlife refuge. They would move to a school building in Green Bank.

HOOKED ON FISHING: Will be held at Patriot Lake, Galloway, on Saturday, May 5.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: The installation dinner photos are posted on our website.

COMMUNICATIONS: Bank statement received as well as free tickets to boat show to be held in Edison
February 15-18.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Lou discussed the installation dinner at the Crab Trap and how well it went. 54 people were in attendance. Charles Elwell said notices will be going out to anyone who has not paid their dues by now. There was discussion about our annual raffle. Dave Holmes brought up an idea to have the drawing at the Brigantine Elks lodge at the Day on the Bay event but President Van Daley said that can’t be done since the raffle must be held in the community where the permit is drawn. President Van Daley decided to call the raffle “vacation pay day” and to hold the drawing at our open tournament in July.

NEW BUSINESS: May 19 is the kids’ bluefish tournament. The open tournament will be held July 14 at Pitney Pub and the captains meeting Friday night the 13th, also at the Pitney Pub.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: John Zarach, club member, will be running for Congress on the Republican
ticket since Congressman LoBiondo will be retiring. Dave Holmes
mentioned that the north end of Brigantine beaches will now be controlled by
the state of New Jersey with new regulations and additional fees.

Next meeting: Monday, March 12 at 7:30 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
Lou Schott recorded for Bob Cusack, Secretary
