FEDERATION: No report.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: Meeting on July 7 at the Galloway Library and will provide an update on Diamondback turtles and the artificial reef program.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: Nothing to report.

TOURNAMENTS: Secured the American Legion for the remaining in-house tournaments weigh-in and the open tournament weigh in. Open: Need to start collecting door prizes and post Flyers. Stonerod will call Scotts B&T to post open on their website. Waiting for sponsor donations before ordering T-Shirts.

COMMUNICATIONS: Received RFA request for donation.

MEMBER APPLICATIONS: No new members.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None.

NEW BUSINESS: Joe wants the club banner to hang at Brigantine National night out. Joe will set up a booth for the club.

PICNIC: Need to secure Cologne firehouse

GOOD OF THE ORDER: The Polecat Tournament was a good event. Lots of large Bluefish were weighed in. The State took heads of all fish to study.

TRUSTEES: No report.

GACF: 19 boats participated in the tournament.

SUNSHINE: John Reese is in the hospital with heart issues.

FEDERATION: Done for the summer. There was a donation to the AC boys fishing outing.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: No report.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: Photos of the kids’ bluefish tournament were posted on Facebook and the Club website. Need to take pictures of the open tournament BBQ.

TOURNAMENTS: The results of the 1st and 2nd in-house tournaments were read and checks were given to the winners. Land and Sea tournament has 23 entrees. Remind in-House participants that all weigh-in slips should be entered. Please call if not showing up for in-house weigh-in. Charlie to provide rules for in-house tournaments for email distribution. The Fisherman magazine will post the open tournament.

COMMUNICATIONS: Bank Statements. Government request for account information to maintain 401C status.

MEMBER APPLICATIONS: No new members.

GACF: Tournament is scheduled for June 4. Volunteers are needed.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: No report.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: The Land & Sea Facebook page is up to 130 “likes.” Photos of the kids’ bluefish
tournament were posted on Facebook and the Club website.

TOURNAMENTS: The 1st In-House tournament is this Saturday (5/28). Need to confirm weigh-in at Chestnut Neck boat yard. There are 18 signed up for the Land & Sea tournament. Paul Stonerod is working on improving the open flyer. Need to sure up sponsors for the open tournament. The Pomona Gun Club tournament is June 11 (same day as 2nd In-House tournament).

COMMUNICATIONS: No report.

MEMBER APPLICATIONS: No new members.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The kids’ Bluefish tournament was well attended with 45 kids fishing. Several fish caught were over 10 pounds and a couple over 15 pounds. Mike Shepherd (“Shep on Fishing”) gave a plug on the radio and The Press of Atlantic City published an article. In future tournaments need to inform the children that all fish should be weighed as there is a prize for the smallest fish.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRUSTEES: No report.

GACF: Tournament is schedules for June 4. There are 7 boats signed up.

SUNSHINE: Jack Snyder is still sick. Lou Schott will send a get well card.

FEDERATION: Dave Burkes reported that there were 75 children that participated in the HOFNOD event at Patriot Lake. The largest fish caught was a 14 inch catfish. Dave also reported that we can now apply for the striped bass bonus tag on a first come first serve basis. There will also be another HOFNOD event at Lake Lenape on June 11.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: There will be a marine fishery council meeting on May 12 at 4pm. It is open to the public.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: Nothing reported.

TOURNAMENTS: There are now 14 boats signed up which means that in house tournaments can be held regardless of the number of boats actually fishing.

COMMUNICATIONS: Nothing reported.

MEMBER APPLICATIONS: No new members.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The only raffle tickets not paid for were from Jeff Krawczyk. John Reese had put the money in for him. Because of that, there was a motion made and seconded and approved by unanimous vote that the prize money from Jeff’s ticket be given to John Reese. Paul Maccagnano donated $50 dollars back to the club from his raffle prize.

Unpaid members at this point: Jack Herman, Jack Snyder, Steve Pinkus.

Joe Ricciardi presented $110 dollars from the sale of club t-shirts. Job well done, Joe.

Info about the kid’s bluefish tournament: volunteers to meet at chestnut neck boat yard to set up the work area for the event. There would be t shirts to be set up, the scale to be set up, door prize goody bags to be stuffed and soda and water to be handled.

April 25, 2016 Minutes

ABSECON SALTWATER SPORTSMEN
MINUTES
April 25, 2016

The meeting of April 18 did not open with our regular format. Instead, we had a special speaker, Dante Soriente of Magic Tale Bucktails. Locally, he makes many different and unique kinds of Bucktails. He is also making mojo lures used for trolling for stripers. He answered many questions from the audience and was well received. We had a number of guests in the audience as well as members who do not frequently attend.

The minutes of the April 11 meeting were read and approved. There was no treasurer’s report.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRUSTEES: No report.

GACF: The spaghetti dinner was cancelled and may be held again at a future date. Five boats are signed up for the bluefish tournament.

SUNSHINE: No one reported sick.

FEDERATION: Dave Burke reported the HOFNOD fish tournament will be held at Patriot Lake. Volunteers from the club will be needed.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: No report.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: The land and sea tournament has its own Facebook page, which earned 100 followers in one week.

TOURNAMENTS: There are now 10 boats signed up. Flyers for the open tournament are now available.

COMMUNICATIONS: We received the tax exempt card from Staples for anything we purchase or have printed.

MEMBER APPLICATIONS: Welcome to Bob Switzer from Smithville and Jim Lannon from Brigantine.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The kid’s bluefish tournament to be held on May 14 will need volunteers. At the last meeting Joe Ricciardi announced club t-shirts available at $10 each. He purchased the shirts with his own money and as the shirts got sold he reimbursed himself, the balance (100 dollars) was handed over to the club. Way to go Joe and thank you.

NEW BUSINESS: David Holmes indicated that Kammermans Marina would like to be a sponsor of the club and would also offer discounts to club members.

GACF: The GACF will hold a spaghetti dinner on April 30 at the Pleasantville yacht basin from 1 to 8 pm. Cost is $12 for adults.

SUNSHINE: Jim Wynn recently passed away. He is a former member of the club. Jack Snyder is still sick.

FEDERATION: No report.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: No report.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: David Holmes set up a new Facebook for members only. Members can display items for sale,
fishing spots and other personal information

TOURNAMENTS: There are now 6 boats signed up. Paul Stonerod has started the second annual land and sea tournament again. The cost is $20.00 per person. You do not need to be a member to be in the contest. Something new this year is the additional of second and third place for each of the 4 categories. Full details are available on the flyer, or by calling or emailing Paul Stonerod.

COMMUNICATIONS: No report.

MEMBER APPLICATIONS: Vince Jones of Somers Point. Welcome to the club, Vince!

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: All pay day for tax day tickets have been sold as per John Reese. Following are the winners: 1st place $1,250, P.J. Culleny; 2nd place $500, Mels; 3rd place $250, John Reese; 4th place $250, ticket #204, 5th place $250, Paul Maccagnano. Congratulations to the winners and to all who sold and purchased tickets. A round of applause was given to John Reese for doing an outstanding job in overseeing the tickets.

T-shirts have been ordered for the kid’s bluefish tournament at a cost of $775.00.

NEW BUSINESS: Reminder: Hooked on Fishing at Patriot Lake on May 7. Volunteers from the Club are needed. It is a fun morning. Joe Ricciardi announced that he does not have a speaker for the April 25 meeting. However, member Jay Lavance said he has a possible speaker and will let Joe know. Jay also mentioned that the Absecon Bay Sportsmen Center will be having a fluke tournament with half the funds to the winner and half to SSFFF (save the summer flounder fishery foundation).

March 14, 2016

The meeting was brought to order by Jim Van Daley, President, with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops. The minutes of the February 8 meeting were read and approved. The treasurers’ report was read and approved. Charles Elwell also discussed the annual budget from the directors meeting of February 29. As it stands, the general account will have a surplus of $N/A. The charity account will be in the red for $1786.00, mostly because we have budgeted a lot of money for t-shirts for upcoming tournaments. The directors also approved a $200 donation to SSFFF (“Save the summer flounder fishery fund).

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRUSTEES: No report.

GACF: There will be a meeting on Wednesday the 16th. Jim Van Daley has GACF raffle tickets for anyone who wishes to purchase.

SUNSHINE: No report.

FEDERATION: The annual venison dinner was held February 15. Number of attendees was down to approx. 270 people. The Federation will participate, once again, in HOFNOD at Patriot Lake on May 7. The Federation held its annual kids’ sporting clays event at Red Wing Sporting Clays on March 12. It was a big success as there were approx. 115 kids in attendance.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: No report.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: No report.

TOURNAMENTS: 4 boats now signed up. Cost is $120 for all 4 tournaments.

COMMUNICATIONS: We received the state license for our weigh in scale.

MEMBER APPLICATIONS: A new member has been approved. His name is Jay Lavance. Jay works at Absecon Bay Sportsmen Center. Welcome Jay!

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: John Reese gave a report on raffle tickets. They are all distributed and he has been collecting the outstanding money.

NEW BUSINESS: President Van Daley stated he will give out flyers for the kid’s bluefish tournament and the open tournament. He will do this at the hooked on fishing tournament at Patriot Lake on May 7. Tony Zarack mentioned that the NJOA (New Jersey Outdoor Alliance) will hold a fundraiser shoot at Red Wing Sporting Clays on May 14. The cost is $55.00 and includes lunch. Bring your own shells and gun. 100 targets. Tony also mentioned that the AC police will be running the kids fishing derby of AC to be held on June 11. President Van Daley said it is not too early to start asking for T-shirt sponsors for the open tournament; $150 and $200 for business, and $100 for family. Paul Stonerod also stated that he will be running the land and sea tournament again this year, starting May 1. There was also discussion about whether we would have a speaker in April. In the past, it was held at the Brigantine VFW but we have not heard from them so we may have a speaker at our second April meeting in Absecon and open to the public. Ed Goldman spoke about Absecon Mayor Armstrong’s concept to have a marine boardwalk from the Absecon pool to extend as far as the Conkley property. A motion was made by Harry Walker and seconded and approved for the following: Joe Ricciardi would purchase club t-shirts with our logo on them. He would use his money and as he sells them he would repay himself and the rest of the money would go into the club treasury. He is doing this as the club does not have the funds to purchase shirts in advance right now.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRUSTEES: President Van Daley announced that there would be a trustees’ meeting at his home on February 29 at 8PM.

GACF: President Van Daley worked the boat show and sold many tickets.

SUNSHINE: Lou will send a get well card to Tina Stonerod who broke her leg in a car accident on the day of our annual
Installation dinner.

FEDERATION: The annual venison dinner will be held on February 15. And, those that can make it will be cutting meat on Sunday
morning at Port Gun Club.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: No report.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: David Holmes furnished many photos of the installation dinner that were posted on the website
and Facebook.

TOURNAMENTS: Two boats are already signed up for the year.

COMMUNICATIONS: None.

INSTALLATION DINNER: It was a huge success with almost 80 people present. Discussion was made in reference to starting earlier, fewer but better door prizes so people could leave a little earlier.

January 11, 2016

The meeting was brought to order by Lou Schott, Vice President with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops. President Van Daley is on vacation in Scotland. The minutes of the December 11 were read and approved. The treasurers report was read and approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRUSTEES: No report.

GACF: Ed Goldman reported the Atlantic city boat show will be held February 3-7. The offer to work at the boat show for the GACF call Ed Goldman at 335-8658. The next GACF meeting will be on January 20, 2016. The Absecon light show raised $6300.00 in donations for the GACF.

SUNSHINE: Lou Schott reported that his cousin, Joe Schott, a member of the club passed away on December 29. President Van
Daley presented an Absecon Saltwater Sportsmen flag to the family which was placed in the coffin.

FEDERATION: The annual venison dinner will take place on February 15, at Kerry Brook caterers in Hammonton. The cost
is $30.00.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: Their meeting was moved to Manahawkin. There was discussion about the possibility of changing the fluke limits on the Jersey side of Delaware to 16 inches to be in line with Delaware which has that limit and causes many jersey anglers to go to Delaware to fish for fluke. There was also discussion about fishing for fluke in island beach state park where the size limit is only 16 inches. It was also brought up that in new jersey fluke were under fished which means that there may not be a reduction in fluke quotas in 2016.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: No report.

TOURNAMENTS: Bill Will entered a perch weighing 1 pound, 3 oz.

COMMUNICATIONS: We received a thank you from the field of dreams for our donation of $600. Also a request from RFA PAC for a request for money. We budget money for them each year. We also received a notice that there is a fishing flea market in Palmyra, NJ on February 14.

MEMBER APPLICATIONS: No new applicants.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: John Reese has 50/50 tickets available.

NEW BUSINESS: Scott Shreaves donated 2 tickets for the fishing seminar series to take place at the Linwood country club. The value of the tickets is $55. It was brought up as a good idea to raffle them off at the installation dinner. John Reese brought up the point of promoting, on our Facebook and website, those members that have businesses and the businesses who support our club. The general membership felt this was idea.

INSTALLATION DINNER: Lou Schott said that the price is the same as last year, $35.00 and the menu is the same even though the price of entrees went up a little bit. After the meeting he would get members choices for dinner.

December 14, 2015

The meeting opened with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops, with President Jim Van Daley presiding.
The minutes of the November 9 meeting were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was read and approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRUSTEES: No report.

GACF: Ed Goldman reported that they will be back at the boat show this year. Also, the Chinese auction at Parkertown raised between 6 and 8 thousand dollars in profit. The GACF also sold a boat which they had repaired to prime condition. They sold that for $5,000.

SUNSHINE: Lou Schott reported that his cousin, Joe Schott, has been very sick and is home recuperating. Lou Schott will send a get well card. Joe Ricciardi spoke to Janet Petro. She reported that Jack is doing pretty good and that they both miss the club. They have purchased a home just down the road from their daughter in New York.

FEDERATION: No report.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: No report.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: No report.

TOURNAMENTS: Charles Elwell caught and registered a striper of 40 lb., 1 oz. There have been no perch entered in that portion of our contest.

COMMUNICATIONS: We received a calendar from the Field of Dreams organization.

MEMBER APPLICATIONS: No new applicants.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: John Reese volunteered to take over the job of handling the 50/50 tickets. He is the person to call for additional tickets. Lou Schott said he would have a menu and prices for the January 29 installation dinner at the January 11 meeting.

NEW BUSINESS: President Van Daley suggested that we create an award for an outstanding member of the club who has given unselfishly of himself for the betterment of the club. Everyone was in agreement. He also suggested a group trip to the AC. Bass Pro Store sometime in the early part of the new year.

ELECTIONS: There were no contests for officers and they will remain the same. There were 6 nominees for trustees which would have created an election, however, John Reese, as one of the nominees withdrew his name which left 5 trustees. They are as follows: David Holmes, Joe Ricciardi, Bob Zussman, Harry Walker, and Paul Stonerod. At that point, Ed Goldman made a motion to accept the slate. His motion was seconded and the vote was approved.
