MINUTES
February 8, 2016

The meeting was brought to order by Jim Van Daley, President, with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops. The minutes of the January 11 were read and approved. The treasurers’ report was read and approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRUSTEES: President Van Daley announced that there would be a trustees’ meeting at his home on February 29 at 8PM.

GACF: President Van Daley worked the boat show and sold many tickets.

SUNSHINE: Lou will send a get well card to Tina Stonerod who broke her leg in a car accident on the day of our annual
Installation dinner.

FEDERATION: The annual venison dinner will be held on February 15. And, those that can make it will be cutting meat on Sunday
morning at Port Gun Club.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: No report.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: David Holmes furnished many photos of the installation dinner that were posted on the website
and Facebook.

TOURNAMENTS: Two boats are already signed up for the year.

COMMUNICATIONS: None.

MEMBER APPLICATIONS: No new applicants.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: John Reese reported that all tickets were sold or mailed out. Contact him or Ed Goldman if anyone needs more tickets.

NEW BUSINESS: None.

INSTALLATION DINNER: It was a huge success with almost 80 people present. Discussion was made in reference to starting earlier, fewer but better door prizes so people could leave a little earlier.

Dave Burke – 2015 Fisherman of the year Trophy with a bluefish.

Five plaques for divisional winners: Jeff Reese – 2015 Flounder Division 12.95 lb., Charlie Elwell 2015 Flounder division 19.97 lb., Dave Burke 2015 Bluefish division 12.86 lb., Shawn Van Daley 2015 Weakfish division 1.26 lb., Brian Will 2015 Weakfish division.

Five smaller plaques, Jeff Reese – Largest Flounder 5.93lb, Brian Will – Largest Weakfish 4.14 lb., Dave Burke – Largest Bluefish 11.69 lb., Charlie Elwell Largest Stripe bass 40.1 lb., William Will – Largest Perch 1.3 lb.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: Jim Van Daley discussed his trip to England and Scotland.

January 11, 2016 Minutes

January 11, 2016

The meeting was brought to order by Lou Schott, Vice President with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops. President Van Daley is on vacation in Scotland. The minutes of the December 11 were read and approved. The treasurers report was read and approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRUSTEES: No report.

GACF: Ed Goldman reported the Atlantic city boat show will be held February 3-7. The offer to work at the boat show for the GACF call Ed Goldman at 335-8658. The next GACF meeting will be on January 20, 2016. The Absecon light show raised $6300.00 in donations for the GACF.

SUNSHINE: Lou Schott reported that his cousin, Joe Schott, a member of the club passed away on December 29. President Van
Daley presented an Absecon Saltwater Sportsmen flag to the family which was placed in the coffin.

FEDERATION: The annual venison dinner will take place on February 15, at Kerry Brook caterers in Hammonton. The cost
is $30.00.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: Their meeting was moved to Manahawkin. There was discussion about the possibility of changing the fluke limits on the Jersey side of Delaware to 16 inches to be in line with Delaware which has that limit and causes many jersey anglers to go to Delaware to fish for fluke. There was also discussion about fishing for fluke in island beach state park where the size limit is only 16 inches. It was also brought up that in new jersey fluke were under fished which means that there may not be a reduction in fluke quotas in 2016.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: No report.

TOURNAMENTS: Bill Will entered a perch weighing 1 pound, 3 oz.

COMMUNICATIONS: We received a thank you from the field of dreams for our donation of $600. Also a request from RFA PAC for a request for money. We budget money for them each year. We also received a notice that there is a fishing flea market in Palmyra, NJ on February 14.

MEMBER APPLICATIONS: No new applicants.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: John Reese has 50/50 tickets available.

NEW BUSINESS: Scott Shreaves donated 2 tickets for the fishing seminar series to take place at the Linwood country club. The value of the tickets is $55. It was brought up as a good idea to raffle them off at the installation dinner. John Reese brought up the point of promoting, on our Facebook and website, those members that have businesses and the businesses who support our club. The general membership felt this was idea.

INSTALLATION DINNER: Lou Schott said that the price is the same as last year, $35.00 and the menu is the same even though the price of entrees went up a little bit. After the meeting he would get members choices for dinner.

December 14, 2015

The meeting opened with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops, with President Jim Van Daley presiding.
The minutes of the November 9 meeting were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was read and approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRUSTEES: No report.

GACF: Ed Goldman reported that they will be back at the boat show this year. Also, the Chinese auction at Parkertown raised between 6 and 8 thousand dollars in profit. The GACF also sold a boat which they had repaired to prime condition. They sold that for $5,000.

SUNSHINE: Lou Schott reported that his cousin, Joe Schott, has been very sick and is home recuperating. Lou Schott will send a get well card. Joe Ricciardi spoke to Janet Petro. She reported that Jack is doing pretty good and that they both miss the club. They have purchased a home just down the road from their daughter in New York.

FEDERATION: No report.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: No report.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: No report.

TOURNAMENTS: Charles Elwell caught and registered a striper of 40 lb., 1 oz. There have been no perch entered in that portion of our contest.

COMMUNICATIONS: We received a calendar from the Field of Dreams organization.

MEMBER APPLICATIONS: No new applicants.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: John Reese volunteered to take over the job of handling the 50/50 tickets. He is the person to call for additional tickets. Lou Schott said he would have a menu and prices for the January 29 installation dinner at the January 11 meeting.

NEW BUSINESS: President Van Daley suggested that we create an award for an outstanding member of the club who has given unselfishly of himself for the betterment of the club. Everyone was in agreement. He also suggested a group trip to the AC. Bass Pro Store sometime in the early part of the new year.

ELECTIONS: There were no contests for officers and they will remain the same. There were 6 nominees for trustees which would have created an election, however, John Reese, as one of the nominees withdrew his name which left 5 trustees. They are as follows: David Holmes, Joe Ricciardi, Bob Zussman, Harry Walker, and Paul Stonerod. At that point, Ed Goldman made a motion to accept the slate. His motion was seconded and the vote was approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRUSTEES: No report.

GACF: Ed Goldman reported that the sponsor’s dinner was very good, which was held at the Pleasantville Yacht Club. The Chinese auction held at the Parkertown firehouse was very well attended and had many nice prizes available including a kayak, ATV, air conditioner, many nice prints, and various fish carvings.

SUNSHINE: No report of anyone sick.

FEDERATION: No report.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: No report.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: No report.

TOURNAMENTS: The Land and Sea Tournament closed and Paul Stonerod read off the winners. Chris Pizzack – Fluke 8.56 lb., Kurt Renart- Kingfish11.2oz, Jay Lavance – Striper 32.1 lb. & Bluefish 17.55 lb. The winners had to be present to take their cash prize; only Chris Pizzack was able to attend.

COMMUNICATIONS: Received a thank you card from the Lady’s Invitational Bluefish Tournament for the club’s donation.

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: No new applicants.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Raffle tickets have been printed and are now available. Many were picked up at the meeting. Ed Goldman has the tickets and can be reached on his cell to purchase. Lou Schott secured the Crab Trap restaurant for the installation dinner on 1/29/2016.

NEW BUSINESS: A woman from the Pew foundation requested to speak at our club regarding renewable sustainable species act (The Magnuson Act). After discussion from the floor President Van Daley decided not to invite her to a meeting. It was felt that the Pew foundation wants to close huge amounts of the ocean so that certain or all species of fish will increase in numbers.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: Joe Ricciardi has the largest Striper entered in our club tournament at 29 lbs.

NEW MEMBERSHIP: Ronald Famularo was approved as a new member. Contact information will be sent
to Bob Cusack.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Charlie and Jim are still working on getting the raffle license renewed.

NEW BUSINESS: The Atlantic City Boat Show will be held on February 3 to 7, 2016. In reference to
our installation dinner, Lou will contact the Crab Trap for a good date in February. President Van Daley presented a
check for $600.00 to the Field of Dreams; they were very appreciative.

The meeting opened with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops, with President Jim Van Daley presiding. The minutes of the September 14 meeting were read and approved with one correction: it was printed that there was a meeting of the Federation on September 17, but in fact there was no meeting that date.

The treasurer’s report was read and approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRUSTEES: No report.

GACF: The gift auction will be held at Parkertown Fire House on October 17.

SUNSHINE: No report.

FEDERATION: No report.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: No report.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: Picnic pictures were posted to both the Website and to Facebook.

TOURNAMENTS: No change. Still no entries for perch or striper.

COMMUNICATIONS: There were some thank you letters sent to Captains/Sponsors that were “returned to sender.”

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: No new applicants.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Charlie and Jim are working on getting the raffle license renewed.

NEW BUSINESS: The Tuckerton decoy event was held on September 26 and 27.

PICNIC: Lou donated unused food from the picnic to the Community Food Bank; they were very appreciative. We need to get Brian Will’s girlfriend’s name on the dessert plaque.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRUSTEES: No report.

GACF: The “Beef and Beer” held at the Black Cat in August was successful and everyone had good
time. They are holding their annual Chinese Auction in October.

SUNSHINE: No report of anyone sick.

FEDERATION: Meeting this Thursday, September 17.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: No report.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: Need to post picnic pictures.

TOURNAMENTS: In-house tournaments are done for the season. No change to Land & Sea and Striper and Perch tournament.

COMMUNICATIONS: Mail was not picked up.

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: No new applicants.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Need to sort out T-Shirt money. Not all sponsors have received their shirts. Sponsor Lindy Hops owes a check. Charlie determined that we could give FOD $600 at an upcoming ball game.

NEW BUSINESS: Need to order 150 T-Shirts for next year’s open tournament. Glenn Insurance wants to be on the T-Shirt next year. The Jersey Devils contacted the Club and offered tickets at reduced prices, which the club could resell at face value. We all decided this was not a good idea.

PICNIC: Lou gave a report, 88 adults attended. The food was great and all had a fun time. The helpers worked hard and were very organized. The club made money. The extra food will be given to the Community Food Bank of South Jersey. Next year we will reduce the amount of clams to 800 and crabs to 1 bushel. The Club agreed to give the Cologne Firehouse a $200 donation.

The meeting opened with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops, with President Jim Van Daley presiding. The minutes of the August 10 meeting were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was read and approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRUSTEES: No report.

GACF: There will be a “Beef and Beer” at the Black Cat on August 30 from 2 – 6 PM. There will be a small Chinese auction. The cost is $20 if purchased in advance and $25 at the door, includes Roast Beef, salad, and 2 drinks. There will be door prizes and music.

SUNSHINE: No report of anyone sick.

FEDERATION: Closed for the summer.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: Flounder quota for 2016 may be cut by 29%. NJ will have to figure out how to comply.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: Posted photos from the “Day on the Bay” event. Several Facebook “Likes” were added after the posting.

TOURNAMENTS: The 4th in-house tournament prizes were handed out. No changes to the Land & Sea tournament results. No weigh-in for the Striper and Perch tournament.

COMMUNICATIONS: Bank statements.

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: One new applicant, Jack Hermann, was approved.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The fisherman of the year plaque was returned.

NEW BUSINESS: Charlie needs to determine how much money we can give to FOD.

OPEN TOURNAMNT: Nothing to report.

PICNIC: Lou and John need to meet to review food requirements. Need help with cleaning crabs near Oyster Creek at 9AM on 9/12. Need help with Cologne Firehouse picnic tables at 5PM on 9/12. Need help with picnic setup 10PM on Sunday, 9/13.

FIELD OF DREAMS: There were a lot of fish caught at the “Day on the Bay” event with the FOD kids. All had a great time and the BBQ put on by the Elks club was fantastic. Jim acknowledged the members who supported this event. We received a $50 donation from one of the FOD child’s family.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: John Reese took 2nd place at a Perch tournament; 5 fish weighed in at 6.10 lb.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: Hunters, Fisherman, & Trappers are upset with the closing of the Wharton State forest road. The road was deteriorating due to 4WD use and dumping. Strip Bass bonus tags are available online.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: Need to post the “Day on the Bay” event.

TOURNAMENTS: The 4th in-house tournament will be on August 15. Looking for the In-House tournament rules and post on web site. Chris Peszka is now leading in the flounder division of the Land & Sea tournament; it weighed in at 8.56 lb.

COMMUNICATIONS: Bank statements. The club received a check for $100 from Glenn Insurance for the open tournament. Need to add them to the sponsors list when thank you letters are mailed after the “Day on the Bay” event.

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: No new applications.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Nothing reported.

NEW BUSINESS: The AC press ran an article on improvements to the Absecon boat ramp area. The club was not contacted for input. There was more discussion on Ethanol gas and its problems to marine motors and fuel systems. Lou sent an email to Senator Menendez & Booker and other local assemblymen explain the problem with ethanol, no one has replied yet.

OPEN TOURNAMNT: Need to make sure all sponsors received a T-Shirt.

PICNIC: Lou gave an update, location and date not are now set we will be at the Cologne fire house on September 13. Flyers were mailed to all club members.

FIELD OF DREAMS: Need to email Jeff at the Littoral Society and invite him to the “Day on the Bay” event. The Elks club will put on the BBQ. Scoops is providing Ice Cream. We are expecting about 20 kids for the trip. Jim decided that this event will be on the 3rd Monday in August from now on so to not be on the same day as a club meeting. The club would like to have some input to the AC press article on the event to get facts correct.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: Spot fish have been reported in the Absecon creek. Ernie Kinsel caught a 6.3 lb. flounder. ASWS was at the Galloway National night out. Joe reported the kids had a blast catching the magnet fish.

July 27, 2015

The meeting opened with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops, with President Jim Van Daley presiding. The minutes of July 13 were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was read and approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

TRUSTEES: No report.

GACF: Next meeting is 3rd week in August. The will be a beef and beer at the Black Cat on August 30.

SUNSHINE: Ed Egnor passed away. He was a dedicated member who will surely be missed. Service is tomorrow.

FEDERATION: Closed for the summer.

NJ MARINE FISHERIES: There is talk of a 46% reduction flounder catch for 2016. A rule change is needed so the big females are sent back.

WEBSITE/FACEBOOK: The open tournament was posted in time on Facebook and the website.

TOURNAMENTS: The 4th in-house tournament will be on August 15.

COMMUNICATIONS: Nothing reported.

APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP: No new applications.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Bob found the dessert winners for years 2010 – 2014. Both the dessert and fisherman of the year plaques need to be updated.

NEW BUSINESS: Lou brought up the subject of Ethanol Gas and the need to get it removed for marine gas. There is talk of increasing the amount of Ethanol to 15%, this will make the marine engines run hotter and is bad on gas lines and parts in the fuel system on older boats. Lou’s brother has been talking to the NJ politicians. The club should do something to let politicians know the issues with Ethonol.

OPEN TOURNAMNT: Tournament and BBQ were good, and had good weather. Jim would like to see more boats sign up. Enough money was raised to support the Day on the Bay event with the FOD kids.

PICNIC: Lou gave an update, location and date not set at this time. The Cologne fire house has 3 church groups on the current planned date. EHC Lake is not a good choice. Another alternative is the Pomona Gun Club. Lou is going to check them out.

FIELD OF DREAMS: The “Day on the Bay” event is set for August 17 and the Fish Finder is good with the date. Need to check with the Elks club and make sure the will host the BBQ once again.
