MINUTES
October 13, 2014

The meeting opened with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops, with President Jim Van Daley presiding.

The minutes from September 22, 2014 were not available to be read. The treasurer’s report was read and approved. Ending balances: Charity Account: $3,709.19 General Account: $2,805.57 Raffle: $5.50

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Trustee: Nothing to report.
GACF: The Chinese auction will be held at the Parkertown firehouse on 10/16.
Sunshine: George Scheurman passed away. George was a long time member and president of the Absecon American Legion. Get well cards will be sent to Ed Goldman and Ed Egnor; a condolence card will be sent to the family of Jerry Dinger.
Federation: no one from our club attended the last meeting.
NJMFC: Nothing reported.
Website: Lou Schott read and talked about an email sent to us from southern fin apparel in which they would give us 10% off their products. there was mild discussion and there was not of much interest from anyone.
In House: Done for the season.
Open: Done for the season.

Striper and Perch: John Reese weighed in a perch of 1 1/2 pounds.

COMMUNICATIONS: We received a thank you from the Field of Dreams for our generous donation. We have contributed $1200 to them this year.

NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS: No new applications.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: All the raffle work is completed and is ready to be given to Port Republic city clerk.

NEW BUSINESS: : John Reese won first place in a Vineland perch tournament.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Trustee: Nothing to report.
GACF: The Chinese auction will be held at Parkertown on 10/19. At the last meeting the members were brainstorming ideas on various fundraisers.
Sunshine: Jerry Dinger passed away; he will be missed by the club.
Federation: The C/O will be at the next meeting. The RFA is hosting a fundraiser for Congressman LoBiondo at Viking Yachts.
NJMFC: Nothing reported.
Website: Posted minutes.
In House: Done for the season.
Open: Done for the season.

Striper and Perch: ongoing, 2 weigh-ins to date.

COMMUNICATIONS: Sponsor letter for Gilcrest Offshore Restaurant was returned again. Wrong address was on envelope; will be re-mailed to correct address.

NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS: No new applications.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Jim went to the Field of Dreams game on 9/19 and presented a $500 donation. He gave a speech to all asking for more support and help for the open tournament. FOD agreed to put the ASWS banner on the fence at the baseball field. FOD needs the clubs logo; Joe Ricciardi will furnish.

Jim filed the raffle paperwork with Port Republic and it was approved. Approved license was given to Charlie. Charlie said he would have the raffle tickets by Christmas.

NEW BUSINESS: The club approved to donate $250 to the Cologne Fire Co. for use of their property for the club picnic.

Elections: Are coming up – time to start thinking of names to nominate.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: Blue fish are being caught off the beach in Brigantine. The Absecon boat ramp will be closed on 9/27 for a paddle event.

Next meeting: October 13, 2014 at 7:30 PM. Please note the time change and reduction to only one meeting a month.

Trustee: Nothing to report
GACF: The Millville speedway will support the GACF on October 1 by giving 20% of the proceeds to the GACF. Entry fee is $250.
Sunshine: No report of anyone sick.
Federation: There will be a meeting on 9/11.
NJMFC: Looking for public opinion on what the Striped Bass limits should be. Our area preferred 1 fish.

Striper and Perch: ongoing, 2 weigh-ins to date.

COMMUNICATIONS: Received a flyer from Field of Dreams with pictures from the “Day on the Bay” event.

NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS: No new applications.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Need to coordinate with “Field of Dreams” to pick a date to donate the $500 the club approved to give them. Charlie gave Jim the permit for the raffle and Jim will take it to Port Republic’s City Manager for approval.

NEW BUSINESS: The club voted and approved for a new plaque for the most outstanding member of the year and will get presented at the Installation Dinner.

PICNIC: Lou gave a report on the picnic. There were 68 people attended. There was enough money collected from both the 50-50 and entry fees to cover the cost of the picnic. There was very little food left; the burgers and dogs were sold to Nancy Reese. Need to change the flyer to end the event at 4PM. Winners of the dessert contest:

NEW BUSINESS: Need to start working on getting raffle tickets. Charlie or Jim need to show license to the Port Republic city manager.

PICNIC: Need volunteers for the following: collect money at the picnic, setting up the tables the night before, cleaning crabs the day before, cooking burgers and hot dogs. Need large coolers. Agreed to 800 clams and 1 bushel of #1 crabs.

NJMFC: Acquiring personal information on advisors to make sure of proper credentials for being on the board.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The “Day on the Bay” was held on August 11 and the kids had a great time fishing. The weather was perfect and all enjoyed the BBQ put on by the Brigantine Elks Club.

NEW BUSINESS: Members should support the Flying Cloud restaurant in Absecon which is a great place to eat and meet.

OPEN TOURNAMENT: Charlie gave a finance report on the open tournament. He suggested, and the club approved, giving another $500 to the Field of Dreams organization at one of their baseball games. Results of the open tournament:

Ollie had dinner with the Petro’s before they left for NY. Jim needs the fisherman plaque of the year. The desert plaque is missing, Carl Wilson may have it.

COMMUNICATIONS: Bank Statements.

NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS: John Karlsson was approved as a new member.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The “Day on the Bay” will be held on Monday, August 11. Fish Finder and Elks are confirmed. Joe will see if we can get the Day on the Bay story fisherman magazine.

NEW BUSINESS: The holdup for dredging Absecon Bay is the location for the spoils. The activity has been turned over to NJDOT.

OPEN TOURNAMENT: The tournament was a success. The boat count (31) was up from last year. The club thanked Dave and Ed for helping with the weigh-in. Jack and Janet Petro were at the BBQ and said good-bye. They are moving to upstate NY. There was a discussion about changing to state size limits instead of the 18 inch rule for next year.

PICNIC: John said he would again make his famous clam chowder.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: Joe took the action to look into getting someone to come to a meeting and show the members how to use a GPS chart plotter. Joe talked of a possible side meeting at the restaurant formerly known as the Flying Cloud just to get together.

OPEN TOURNAMENT: Lots of door prizes have been collected; still waiting for a few more. Sponsors for the T-shirt are paid up. Need to keep pushing the flyers. Dave Burke will manage the weigh-in. Members will meet at 6PM on Friday to stuff bags for the Captains meeting.

PICNIC: Lou Schott reported that he secured the Cologne fire house through Bill Will.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: John Reese reported that Crokers and Blowfish are in the Mullica River.

GACF: Looking into a new fundraiser with a night at the Black Cat and possibly a small Chinese auction
Sunshine: Jack & Janet Petro stopped at Honey & Sweets and thanked the club for the perch and informed Jim they were moving to NY. The club approved to make Jack an honorary member.
Federation: Going through the legal work to become a 401c non-profit organization. The next meeting will be in September.
NJMFC: Meet first Thursday in July. Additional police were hired.
Website: Remove balance and post the open tournament flyer.

OPEN TOURNAMENT: Bob will update the rules for 2014. Need to collect door prizes. Paul informed the club that the open tournament will be posted on the Fisherman and On the Water websites. Bob will send open flyer to all past captains. The club decided to purchase gift certificate from some of our sponsors instead of coolers for prizes.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: Thanked Ken Martin for the excellent shrimp bisque soup that he cooked for the meeting.

GACF: 32 boats had entered into the tournament, 15 caught bluefish. 1st – 13.58, 2nd – 12.59, 3rd -9.5, & combined weight – 22.15.
Sunshine: Perch were caught for Jack & Janet Petro.
Federation: The next meeting will be held on 6/12.
NJMFC: Nothing reported.
