The meeting opened with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops with President Jim Van Daley presiding.

The minutes of July 14, 2014 were read and approved. Charlie was not present to read the treasurer’s report.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

GACF: No report.
Sunshine: John Reese was in the hospital, he was at the meeting and looking well.
Federation: Shutdown for the summer.
NJMFC: No report.
Website: Need to post “Day on the Bay Event” and the 2nd half Land & Sea tournament.
In House: 4th tournament is on 8/23. Results of the open tournament were not available.

COMMUNICATIONS: Bank Statements.

NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS: John Karlsson was approved as a new member.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The “Day on the Bay” will be held on Monday, August 11. Fish Finder and Elks are confirmed. Joe will see if we can get the Day on the Bay story fisherman magazine.

NEW BUSINESS: The holdup for dredging Absecon Bay is the location for the spoils. The activity has been turned over to NJDOT.

OPEN TOURNAMENT: The tournament was a success. The boat count (31) was up from last year. The club thanked Dave and Ed for helping with the weigh-in. Jack and Janet Petro were at the BBQ and said good-bye. They are moving to upstate NY. There was a discussion about changing to state size limits instead of the 18 inch rule for next year.

PICNIC: John said he would again make his famous clam chowder.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: Joe took the action to look into getting someone to come to a meeting and show the members how to use a GPS chart plotter. Joe talked of a possible side meeting at the restaurant formerly known as the Flying Cloud just to get together.

GACF: Looking into a wine tasting event in August and a Go-Cart event in Millville. Starting to prepare for the Chinese auction in October.
Sunshine: Ernie Kinsell is not doing well. The club will send him a card.
Federation: The next meeting will be in September.
NJMFC: Legislation to help recreational fishermen will probably not make it through the Senate.

NEW BUSINESS: The Absecon mayor contacted Ed Goldman and requested a boat ride to survey Absecon channel for the dredging project.

OPEN TOURNAMENT: Lots of door prizes have been collected; still waiting for a few more. Sponsors for the T-shirt are paid up. Need to keep pushing the flyers. Dave Burke will manage the weigh-in. Members will meet at 6PM on Friday to stuff bags for the Captains meeting.

PICNIC: Lou Schott reported that he secured the Cologne fire house through Bill Will.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: John Reese reported that Crokers and Blowfish are in the Mullica River.

GACF: Looking into a new fundraiser with a night at the Black Cat and possibly a small Chinese auction
Sunshine: Jack & Janet Petro stopped at Honey & Sweets and thanked the club for the perch and informed Jim they were moving to NY. The club approved to make Jack an honorary member.
Federation: Going through the legal work to become a 401c non-profit organization. The next meeting will be in September.
NJMFC: Meet first Thursday in July. Additional police were hired.
Website: Remove balance and post the open tournament flyer.

OPEN TOURNAMENT: Bob will update the rules for 2014. Need to collect door prizes. Paul informed the club that the open tournament will be posted on the Fisherman and On the Water websites. Bob will send open flyer to all past captains. The club decided to purchase gift certificate from some of our sponsors instead of coolers for prizes.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: Thanked Ken Martin for the excellent shrimp bisque soup that he cooked for the meeting.

NEW BUSINESS: Need to get working on the open tournament. Members were assigned sponsors to solicit for prizes and tee shirt sponsors. Need to get the open info onto the Fishermen and On the Water magazines.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

GACF: Enter GABT by 5/15 and get a chance to win a gallon of Micron CSC paint. The GABT tournament is scheduled for 6/7.
Sunshine: Jack Petro is still sick and not doing well. A few members have visited him.
Federation: Nothing reported.
NJMFC: There was a meeting on 5/1; two 16 inch flounder can be kept when fishing from Island Beach State Park.
Website: The Land and Sea tournaments have been posted.
In House: 1st in house tournament is scheduled for 5/31; weigh in at Chestnut Neck boatyard. Rob Sponsel will help with the weigh in.

COMMUNICATIONS: Received bank statements, dues. Flyer for Sunshine club tournament, entry fee is $60, Captains meet on 7/11 at the Tuckerton Seaport, and the tournament is on 7/12. Flyer for the Local Boys Flounder Tournament out of Hackney’s boat yard, entry fee is $40., sign up on 5/22 & 23, tournament on 5/24.

NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS: Jim Regan, Art Faltyn, John Gabries, Joseph Schott, Jonathan Farrel, and Michael Albright were voted in as members.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Lou has the soda and will pick up the shirts, water ice tickets from Lindy Hops and Sea Tow stuff for the Nuncio Bruno kids fishing tournament this Saturday and Chestnut Neck boat yard. John Reese will pick up the hot dogs and rolls. There are lots of donations to pack and hand out. Need volunteers around 11:00AM for this activity. Weigh in between 1:00 – 2:00 PM

NEW BUSINESS: Charlie reported that 65 members have paid this year and he expects several more to come in soon.

Need to secure the American Legion for the open tournament.

Discussed the picnic location and decided to return to the Cologne firehouse.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: About 160 people entered into the Sneaky Hollow Perch Tournament. There was $2,600 in prize money. Ryan Rippley was the winner.

The minutes of March 10, 2014 were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was not read because Chas Elwell was diligently working with Ed Goldman on the raffle tickets.

Sunshine: Jack Petro is sick and not doing well. Lou will send him a card.
Federation: Youth shoot at Red Wing Sporting Clays: 97 youths participated followed by lunch at the port gun club.
NJMFC: Nothing reported

COMMUNICATIONS: Received the scale certification. Received request for donation for the ladies bluefish tournament. Received an application to participate at the Tuckerton decoy show to be held in September.

NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS: Ralph Girard and Bill Will (father of Brian Will).

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Lou got the Pepsi soda donation approved for the kid’s bluefish tournament and will pick up on May 6.

Patriot lake, May 10: volunteers are needed and to report by 7 am.

NEW BUSINESS: Paul Stonerod spoke at length of a new tournament our club will sponsor. It is designed for members and nonmembers who are endorsed by an existing member where they can fish off the surf or the land for different species of fish. There are 2 separate contests to it. All the details are in the brochure that Paul created and the board approved. President Van Daley gave thanks to Paul for his work on this program.

Volunteers were needed for the annual cleanup at the Forsythe Wildlife Refuge on April 26.

The club received a donation from John Navritil of $125 for the hooked on fishing program. Thanks were given to John for his donation.

Joe Riccardo has confirmed the speaker for our April 28 meeting at the Brigantine VFW.

Tax day raffle: 957 tickets were sold out of 1000. Gross $4785.00 winners were: Mels Furniture $1196.25; Bob Hagel $478.50; Sovereign Ave Teachers $239.25; Matt Rubsaun and Lorie Carlson $239.25.

Ed Goldman discussed dredging Absecon Bay channel. He had spoken to Absecon mayor and he said the Absecon channel is on hold with other communities getting priority.

The club approved purchasing a raffle cylinder jointly with the Atlantic County Federation to be used for our annual raffles.

The first in house tournament is May 31.

Secretary’s Report: The minutes of February 10, 2014 were read and approved

Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s report was read and approved.

Committee Reports:

Trustee Report: The Board of Trustees met and set the budget. A mistake was made on calculating the “Fisherman of the Year” award. A plaque will be ordered for Brian Will who is the correct winner. The calendar was set and emailed to Bob Cusack. Tournament dates were also set. A discussion was held to possibly purchase a “lottery drum” in conjunction with the Atlantic County Federation and possible the GACF. The trustees also recommended getting our treasurer a new briefcase.
G.A.C.F. Report: New chairman is Jeff Krawczyk. He listed a membership drive as one of his priorities.
Tournaments: Nothing to report
City Council: Nothing to report.
Sunshine: Lou Schott thanked the club for their support during the recent passing of his wife.
Atlantic County Federation: The annual dinner was held on President’s Day and was a success. $1950.00 went to the winner of the 50-50. A youth shoot is scheduled for this Sat. at Red Wings Sporting Clays.
NJ Marine Fisheries: A meeting was held on March 6th. Action on the Fluke regs was postponed until April 3rd at a special meeting to be held at the Strafford Municipal Building in Manahawkin. Most likely there will be a 5 fish limit, 18” minimum size and a 128 day season.
ASWS Web Site/Facebook: Bob Cusack needs Ollie Carlson’s and Shawn Van Daley’s email addresses.

Club Picnic: No report.

Hooked on Fishing: Nothing to report.

New Applications: Joe Engleman, Ken Martin, Jonathan Farrell, and James W. Allen were proposed for membership and accepted.

Unfinished Business: Raffle Tickets will be drawn at the first meeting in April. There are 656 tickets out at this point.

President Van Daley reported that the business cards have been received and he has them for any member that wants them. Membership cards were discussed, Ed Goldman will do them.

New Business: Joe Ricciardi reported that the club brochure has been redone with the help of Paul Stonerod. They are looking for new businesses to offer the club discounts. Joe has updated the bulletin board at the ramp. He has also secured a speaker for the April 28th meeting to be held at the Brigantine VFW. Capt. Dan Shafter of Insomniac Charters will speak about back-bay fishing. Jim Van Daley will check and see how many left over shirts he has at home from the Nuncio Bruno tournament and will order as few as necessary.

A suggestion was made that any member who has ideas for improving the club should contact one of the officers with their ideas.

Janet and Jack Petro will not be able to do the weigh-ins this year. The club needs a volunteer for this important task.

Meeting of February, 10 2014

The meeting was called to order by Vice President Lou Schott. President Jim Van Daley was absent. The meeting opened with a salute to the flag and a moment of silence for our troops.

Secretary’s Report: The minutes of January 13, 2014 were read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s report was read and approved.

General Account: N/A Charity Account: N/A

Committee Reports:

Trustee Report: There will be a trustee’s meeting at President Jim Van Daley’s house on Monday, February 24th starting at 7:30PM.
G.A.C.F. Report: A booth was staffed at the boat show. Next meeting will be on Wednesday, February 19th.
Tournaments: Brian Will questioned the math behind the “Fisherman of the Year” points. Charlie Elwell will double check his math and report his findings to the board at the upcoming meeting on February 24th.
City Counsil: Nothing to report.
Sunshine: Lou Schott sent a card to Jack Petro, but hasn’t heard anything further. He also reported that Harry Walker had a hip replacement. Ed Goldman will send a card. There is also some question to the status of Richard Burke; he is reported to be alive and well.
Atlantic County Federation: Lou has the tickets for next week dinner for any member wishing to go. Cost is $30.00
NJ Marine Fisheries: A meeting was held on January 9th, no word on what happened. Next meeting will be held on March 6th, fluke regulations should be finalized at that meeting.
ASWS Web Site/Facebook: Ollie Carlson took pictures and will send them to Bob Cusack to be put on our webpage.

Club Picnic: No report.

Field of Dreams: Nothing to report.

Hooked on Fishing: Nothing to report.

Communication: Bank statements and a bill for the post office box were received.

Unfinished Business: Lou Schott reported on the installation dinner, 60 people attended. Jim Van Daley was given a plaque for his service to the club. Lou said that we should break even on the cost this year. It was suggested that next year we start the dinner a little earlier.

New Business: Charlie Elwell reported that he will be sending out the dues notice shortly. Jim Van Daley reported that the Sneaky Hollow Perch tournament will be held on May 3rd. Adjournment was called for and carried out.

Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s report was read and approved.

Committee Reports:

Trustee Report: Trustees meeting will be scheduled sometime in January.
G.A.C.F. Report: Jeff Krawlzyk was elected as new board member chair, replacing Gus E. The G.A.C.F. will have a booth at the Atlantic City Boat Show.
Tournaments: All 2013 tournaments completed; plaques are ordered and will be given to winners at the Installation Dinner.
City Counsil: Nothing to report.
Sunshine: Jack Petro was hospitalized but now home; Lou Schott will send a card. Richard Burke and past-member Carmen Capone passed away; will send cards from the club if addresses are available.
Atlantic County Federation: The Federation dinner is scheduled for February 17. 10 tickets are available. A discussion whether the club could fund half of the ticket price for members, however, it was decided that members would pay for their own tickets at full-price.
NJ Marine Fisheries: No report.
ASWS Web Site/Facebook: No new Facebook “likes”; the website hosting bill was paid.

Club Picnic: No report.

Field of Dreams: Nothing to report.

Hooked on Fishing: Nothing to report.

Communication: Bank statements and a bill for weights and measures for scale.

Unfinished Business: Annual membership fees are now due. Raffle tickets given out. Jim needs club flyers for the Federation Dinner, Joe will get them. Club banner is done and to be picked up. Lou went over the menu for the Installation Dinner scheduled for January 31. The cost increase to $35 per person was accepted. Bob will send a flyer via email to members (a hardcopy flyer will be sent to those without email). Lou needs a headcount ASAP.

New Business: Red Wing Youth Shoot is March 15. A vote was held and it was decided to donate $100 to the Federation for Youth Shoot T-Shirt. The Kids’ Bluefish Tournament will be May 19. The Open Tournament will be July 19. A full 2014 calendar will be printed in the spring.

Sunshine: Steve Pinkos was in the hospital for bypass surgery. Ed sent him a card from the club.
Atlantic County Federation: The Federation dinner is coming up in February. Jim has several tickets available for this fantastic meal. Call him if you’re interested.
NJ Marine Fisheries: An upcoming meeting will decide if New York will get some of NJ’s fluke quota.
